CASTLEWOOD, S.D. — The host Castlewood Ravens, Clark Traders, and Lake Norden Lakers all captured victories Saturday on opening day of the District 1B Amateur Baseball Tournament at Memorial Park.
Castlewood 12, Ramona 0
Tucker Wookey delivered a dominant performance on the mound, holding the Ramona Express to just one hit over six innings to lead the Castlewood Ravens to a 12-0 victory in seven innings.
Wookey struck out 11 batters and threw 106 pitches before turning the ball over to Kalen Benck, who struck out two in a scoreless seventh inning to seal the shutout.
Gus Steiger powered the Ravens’ offense, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs. Benck also chipped in with a two-hit afternoon.
Brady Miller recorded the lone hit for Ramona. Will Matson took the loss, allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on nine hits over five innings.
Clark 3, Milbank 2
The Clark Traders rallied late to pull off a 3-2 comeback victory over the Milbank Firechiefs.
Trailing late, Clark tied the game in the top of the sixth inning when Zach Toben grounded into a fielder’s choice to bring home a run. The Traders took the lead in the seventh on a Grayson Florey single to left field, coupled with an error that allowed two runs to score.
Milbank mounted a threat in the ninth inning when Tyler Krause reached on an error to score Brady Krause, but Josh Pederson popped out to right field with the potential tying run aboard to end the game.
Hudson Fuller paced Clark at the plate, going 3-for-4, while Florey and Zach Winter added two hits apiece. Jack Heesch earned the win, allowing one run on seven hits while striking out seven over 7 2/3 innings.
Joe Schulte and Brady Krause each had two hits for Milbank. Krause also took the loss on the mound, surrendering three runs on seven hits through seven innings.
Lake Norden 5, Elkton 1
Hunter Janzen set the tone early with a three-run home run in the first inning, propelling the Lake Norden Lakers past Elkton 5-1.
Jordon Johnson turned in a marathon effort on the bump for Lake Norden, striking out eight and scattering seven hits over eight innings while throwing 129 pitches to earn the victory.
The Lakers collected nine hits on the day, led by multi-hit performances from Josh Cleveland and Mick Tulson.
Nathan Shallcross went 3-for-4 to lead Elkton. Aidan Stewart took the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits across six innings while striking out seven.
