CASTLEWOOD, S.D. — High temperatures and hot bats highlighted Sunday’s District 1B Amateur Baseball Tournament games at Memorial Park, as Castlewood and Volga rolled to dominant victories, while Milbank also secured a win to extend its postseason run.
Castlewood 12, Clark 2 (7 innings)
Castlewood collected 14 hits on the way to a 12-2 victory over Clark in seven innings.
A balanced offensive attack saw multiple Castlewood players record multi-hit performances, led by Nos. Gus Steiger, Blayne Schliesman, Booker Schooley, Lucas Ching, Kellan Benck, and Treyton Himmerich, who each tallied two hits. Tucker Wookey and Ching drove the offense with three RBIs apiece, while Schliesman added power with a solo home run in the fifth inning.
On the mound, Alex Gauer turned in a complete-game performance, scattering three hits and allowing two runs over seven innings while striking out seven.
Clark’s offense broke through in the seventh inning with back-to-back solo home runs from Zach Toben and Andrew Magedanz. Toben finished 2-for-3 at the plate, while Magedanz went 1-for-3.
Toben took the loss for Clark, giving up 11 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits over 4 1/3 innings. Hudson Fuller provided 1 2/3 innings of relief work.
Volga 15, Lake Norden 0 (5 Innings)
Top-seeded Volga dominated from start to finish, dispatching Lake Norden 15-0 behind a masterclass performance from Jordan Sagedahl.
Sagedahl powered the offense by going a perfect 3-for-3 with eight RBIs, launching home runs in both the second and fourth innings. Bayley Colemer, Austin Buysee, and Layne Lucas provided depth with two hits each.
Sagedahl was equally dominant on the mound, earning the complete-game shutout win by allowing just one hit and striking out six over the shortened contest.
Lake Norden’s lone hit came from Cody Trumm. The Lakers used four pitchers in the matchup—Kale Stevenson, Hunter Janzen, Nate Wicks, and Blake Jensen—who combined to yield 15 runs on 10 hits.
Milbank 8, Ramona 1
In other tournament action, Milbank earned an 8-1 victory over Ramona, bringing Ramona’s season to an end.
