West, Roehrich fall short at SDGA Match Play Championships

ABERDEEN, S.D. — Local golfers Bob West and Brynn Roehrich both saw their runs end in the knockout rounds of the South Dakota Golf Association Men’s and Women’s Match Play Championships at Moccasin Creek Country Club.

In the men’s round of 16, Watertown’s West dropped a 4-and-3 match to Mitchell’s Jeff Meyerink. Meyerink built a quick 5-up lead through five holes before West mounted a response, winning the sixth, seventh, and ninth holes to trim the deficit to 3-down at the turn.

After halving the 10th and 11th holes, Meyerink pushed his advantage back to 4-up on the 12th hole. West claimed the 13th, but Meyerink regained control on the 14th hole and sealed the match with a tie on the 15th.

On the women’s side, Watertown’s Roehrich advanced out of the quarterfinals with a dramatic extra-holes victory over Katie Betsworth. The two tied after 18 holes, but Roehrich pulled ahead on the third playoff hole to punch her ticket to the semifinals.

Roehrich’s tournament ended in the semifinal round against Allison Meyerink of Mitchell. The two were deadlocked through the front nine, but Meyerink pulled away on the back nine—winning holes 10, 11, 13, and 16 to secure a 3-and-2 victory and advance to the final match.
