MITCHELL, S.D. — The Lake Norden Lakers were unable to generate offense in the late innings Thursday, falling 6-3 to the Wynot Expos in the opening round of the South Dakota Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament at Cadwell Park.
Lake Norden struck first in the top of the first inning when Mick Tulson brought home Kale Stevenson with a sacrifice fly. After Wynot leveled the score, the Lakers reclaimed the lead in the third. Tulson plated a run with an RBI triple and later scored when Josh Cleveland reached base on an Expos error, extending the Lake Norden lead to 3-1.
Wynot began its comeback in the fourth inning on an RBI double by Devon Lammers. The Expos then took control in the fifth, tying the game on a sacrifice fly from Jackson Sudbeck before Nate Wieseler delivered an RBI single to put Wynot ahead 4-3.
The Expos added insurance runs in both the sixth and eighth innings to seal the victory and advance to the second round.
Jesse Lundal earned the win for Wynot, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out three over six innings. Sudbeck provided three innings of scoreless relief to close out the game. At the plate, Jaelyn Wieseler and Nate Wieseler led the Expos with two hits apiece.
Brady Steffen and Jesse Vanoverbeke each recorded two hits for Lake Norden, while Tulson finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Jose Mahe took the loss for the Lakers, allowing six runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and four walks in a complete-eight-inning effort on the mound.
With the loss, Lake Norden ends its season with an 11-8 record.
