WATERTOWN, S.D. — The Watertown high school girls and boys soccer teams kicked off their season over the weekend, splitting a pair of home matches against Rapid City opponents.
On Friday, the Arrow girls dropped a 5-3 decision to Rapid City Stevens. Berkley Fligge, Katie Fischer, and Sophia Gallardo provided the goal scoring for Watertown, while Gallardo and Fligge each recorded an assist. Goalkeeper Madi Enstad turned away 16 shots in net.
The Watertown girls bounced back in emphatic fashion Saturday, routing Rapid City Central 7-0. Fischer paced the attack with a hat trick, including a converted free kick, alongside an assist. Gallardo added two goals—one off a penalty kick—and an assist. Bo Meidinger chipped in a goal and an assist, Isabelle Gerlach scored once, and Sophia Wishard provided an assist. Enstad earned the clean sheet, stopping all five shots she faced.
On the boys’ side, Watertown swept its weekend slate, starting with a 4-1 victory over Stevens on Friday. Xane Fligge, Isaac Thorson, Roger Carranza, and Luke McLaughlin each scored a goal for the Arrows, while Fligge, Carranza, and Drew Brenden contributed assists. Goalkeeper Owen Muller made eight saves.
The Watertown boys followed up with a 7-0 shutout against Central on Saturday. Carranza led the attack with two goals, while Kyrin Boyd, Jonah Shroll, Fligge, Thorson, and McLaughlin scored one apiece. Carranza, Fligge, Dawson Hartman, and Chase Thorson each recorded an assist, and Muller earned the clean sheet with two saves.
The Watertown girls (1-1) and boys (2-0) continue their homestand Tuesday, Aug. 18, against Brandon Valley.
