Watertown Cheer and Dance Showcases Growth at Mitchell Invite

MITCHELL, S.D. — The Watertown high school cheer and dance squads competed Thursday at the Mitchell Invite.

The Watertown cheer team secured a sixth-place finish, earning a total score of 259 points. Bishop O’Gorman claimed the top spot in the cheer competition with a score of 288.

“I am really proud of the improvement the team showed from Saturday’s performance in Aberdeen,” Watertown cheer coach Malory Hoffmann said. “The girls did a much better job with the execution of their stunts and showed the progress they have been working toward.”

In the dance competition, the Arrows tied with Aberdeen Central and Sioux Falls Roosevelt for eighth place in the grand champion standings, finishing with a score of 30. Brandon Valley captured first place overall with a score of 39.

Individually, Watertown earned a fifth-place finish in jazz with 236 points and placed seventh in pom with a score of 228.5.

Both the Watertown cheer and dance squads return to action Saturday for an invitational in Pierre.
