SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Grace McElroy set a new school record to lead the Watertown cross country program Friday evening at the Augustana Twilight XC Meet at Yankton Trail Park.
McElroy clocked a record-setting time of 18 minutes, 19.95 seconds to finish ninth overall in the girls race, helping the Arrow girls place seventh as a team with 369 points. Lilly Gerlach was Watertown’s second runner across the line at 19:43.09, followed by Kate McElroy (20:06.06), Olivia Anderson (20:35.24), Grace List (22:05.23), and Jayda Jensen (22:17.32).
Harrisburg won the girls team crown with 82 points, while Ruby Ihmels of Bismarck Century captured individual gold in 16:46.39.
On the boys side, Dane Stark also earned a top-10 finish for the Arrows, taking ninth place in 15:40.70. Channing DeBoer added an 18:34.99 finish, followed by Evan Mack (19:30.72), Logan Becker (19:31.62), and Grady Lindgren (20:01.55).
Sioux City North’s Kuma Gutema won the boys race in 14:53.23, and Sioux Falls Lincoln took the team title with 75 points.
Watertown travels to Aberdeen on Thursday, Sept. 10, to compete in the Sahli Invite.
