WATERTOWN, S.D. — The Watertown Shamrocks dropped a pair of North American Hockey League preseason games to the Aberdeen Wings over the weekend.
Aberdeen took the home opener 6-3 at Prairie Lakes Ice Arena, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from Campbell Epp at 5:06 and Ayden Cook at 0:10.
Brody Dustin extended Aberdeen’s lead to 3-0 at 19:15 of the second period before Watertown rallied. Goals from Brody Josselyn at 16:56 and Jordan Brothers at 10:46 brought the Shamrocks within one goal. Aberdeen’s Caden Heins answered at 1:02 of the period to put the Wings ahead 4-2.
In the third period, Spencer Morrow pushed the Wings’ lead to 5-2 at 10:16. Josselyn scored his second goal of the night on a power play at 2:15 to pull Watertown within two, but Hugo Johansson sealed the 6-3 victory for Aberdeen with a shorthand, empty-net goal with 1:30 remaining.
Aberdeen outshot Watertown 42-23 in the opener. Shamrocks goaltender Colin Davis stopped 37 of 42 shots.
In the second contest at Odde Ice Arena, Aberdeen shut out Watertown 3-0. Following a scoreless first period, the Wings built a 2-0 advantage with second-period power-play goals from Noah Keyes at 15:26 and Emanuel Ganz at 3:50. Aberdeen added an empty-net goal with three seconds left in the game.
The Wings held a 30-17 advantage in shots on goal. Watertown goaltender Catcher Davis made 27 saves on 29 shots.
Watertown continues its exhibition slate Friday and Saturday against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.
