Stark Takes 12th at Roy Griak; McElroy Leads Watertown Girls in Huron

HURON, S.D. — The Watertown cross country team split its focus over the weekend, highlighted by a top-15 individual performance in Minnesota and a third-place finish in Huron.

Dane Stark led the way Friday, placing 12th in the high school championship race at the Roy Griak Invitational at Fort Snelling Golf Course. Stark crossed the finish line in 15 minutes, 10.40 seconds.

On Saturday, the rest of the Watertown squad traveled to Huron for the Clyde Cotton Invitational.

Grace McElroy paced the Watertown girls with a third-place finish, recording a time of 18:59.40. Kate McElroy joined her in the top 15, taking 11th in 20:17.01, while Lily Gerlach added a 17th-place finish in 20:55.35.

Also competing for the Watertown girls were Grace List (21:59.77), Jayda Jensen (22:16.16), Addison Reichling (22:31.41) and Genesis Anderson (23:00.22).

In the boys race, Channing Deboer posted Watertown’s top finish, taking 36th place with a time of 18:03.45. Evan Mack followed in 18:47.18, with Logan Becker right behind at 18:50.71. Kaiser Lunde clocked in at 18:58.30.

Rounding out the Watertown boys contingent were Zayne Hartwig (20:09.82), Jace Mashburn (20:55.29), Iver Pospisil (20:56.30) and David Peterson (22:24.85).

Watertown returns to action Sept. 24 at the Rapid City Invitational at Hart Ranch.
