PIERRE, S.D. — Emmy Berglund drove in four runs to lead Watertown past Pierre in high school softball action Sunday.
Trailing 10-5 heading into the fourth inning, Watertown launched a massive comeback. Avery Bauman sparked the rally with an RBI single before Ellie Hirsch singled to drive in two more runs. Berglund then delivered the decisive blow, hitting a three-run triple to give Watertown the lead.
Watertown turned a double play in the bottom of the fourth to stifle Pierre’s momentum, and Berglund shut the door in the circle to secure the victory.
Berglund earned the complete-game win, allowing 10 runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out three.
The Arrows (4-2-1) collected 11 hits on the day. Shauna Evenson, Berglund, and Samantha Fuller recorded two hits apiece, while Maddie Carter, Bauman, and Hirsch each contributed one. Berglund paced the offense, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs.
Alivia Heymans and Ava Nelson led Pierre with two hits each. Brynlee Karber took the loss in the circle, allowing 11 runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts.
