WATERTOWN, S.D. — The Watertown soccer teams closed out their regular-season home schedule in dominant fashion Thursday night, securing a sweep against Mitchell at Allen Mitchell Field.
In the opening match of the doubleheader, the Watertown girls (8-4-1) extended their winning streak to six games with a tense 1-0 victory over Mitchell.
Katie Fischer provided all the offense the Arrows would need, curling in a direct free kick for the game’s lone goal. Goalkeeper Madi Endstad stopped two shots in net to preserve the clean sheet.
The second-ranked Watertown boys followed up with a 10-0 rout of the Kernels, recording their seventh shutout of the season to remain undefeated at 12-0-1.
Roger Carranza led the offensive explosion with a hat trick and three assists. Luke McLaughlin and Isaac Thorson each scored twice, while Taren Veflin, Xane Fligge and Carson Schlaht added a goal apiece.
Along with Carranza’s playmaking, Kasen Bender set up three goals, while Dawson Hartman and Fligge each recorded an assist to support the dominant defensive display.
Watertown wraps up the regular season Tuesday, Sept. 29, with a road matchup against Aberdeen.
