RAPID CITY, S.D. — Day one of the 2026 Class AA State Tennis meet wrapped up Thursday in Rapid City, with Watertown sitting in eighth place after tallying a team score of 94.5 points. Rapid City Stevens leads the tournament field with 300 points heading into the final day.
In flight one singles, Elly Dingsor opened her tournament with a victory over Madelyn Dahlmeier of Sioux Falls Washington (6-0, 7-5). Dingsor fell in the championship quarterfinals to Ella Potvin of Rapid City Stevens (6-0, 6-1) and will compete in the fifth-place semifinals today.
Jennika Kettwig earned a flight two singles win against Yankton’s Mary Rounds (6-2, 3-6, 10-5). Kettwig then fell to Harrisburg’s Hope Gabel (6-0, 6-1) in the championship quarterfinals and moves into today’s fifth-place semifinals.
In flight three singles, Grace Pesek dropped her opening match to Ava Prunty of Mitchell (6-4, 6-1), but bounced back in the consolation quarterfinals with a 10-5 victory over Yankton’s Sienna Cuka to advance to today’s consolation semifinals.
Victoria Bobzien dropped her opening flight four singles matchup to Abbie Frye of Harrisburg (6-0, 6-4) and fell in the consolation quarterfinals to Norah Siverhus of Brandon Valley (10-4), ending her tournament run.
In flight five singles, Ella Pesek fell in her opening match to Harper Weisenburger of Yankton (4-6, 6-2, 10-7) before dominanting Catherine Michna of Brookings (10-1) in the consolation quarterfinals to earn a spot in today’s consolation semifinals.
Carol Ann Clausen dropped her flight six singles opener to Ramsey Anderson of Yankton (6-3, 6-3), but responded with a 10-1 victory over Julia Schefers of Brookings in the consolation quarterfinals to advance to the consolation semifinals today.
In flight one doubles, Dingsor and Kettwig teamed up to defeat Elise Bowers and Eliza Mayer (6-1, 6-2) of Pierre in the opening round. The duo fell to Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Emily Lease and Lily Statema (6-1, 6-1) in the championship quarterfinals and will compete in the fifth-place semifinals today.
Grace Pesek and Bobzien dropped their flight two doubles opener to Harrisburg’s Hanna Hruby and Avery Johannsen (6-3, 6-1), but rebounded with a 10-7 win over Yankton’s Ramsey Anderson and Sienna Cuka in the consolation quarterfinals to advance to today’s consolation semifinals.
In flight three doubles, Lilly Fox and Ella Pesek secured a hard-fought opening win against Jovee Waldo and Raylee Zimmer of Aberdeen Central (6-1, 2-6, 10-8). The pair fell in the championship quarterfinals to O’Gorman’s Ruby Bender and Wilnel Farhat (6-4, 6-2) and will play in the fifth-place semifinals today.
