Watertown Cheer and Dance Squads Turn in Solid Performances at Harrisburg, Home Invites

WATERTOWN, S.D. — The Watertown cheer and dance squads completed a busy week of competition, taking the mat at both the Harrisburg Invite on Monday and their own home invite on Thursday at the Civic Arena.

At Monday’s Harrisburg Invite, the Arrow cheer team claimed sixth place with a total score of 255.0. Host Harrisburg won the event with a high score of 297.0.

In the dance competition, Watertown placed ninth overall with 30 points, posting scores of 255.0 in jazz and 239.0 in pom. Dakota Valley and Brandon Valley shared the grand championship with matching scores of 40.

“We struggled a little with our tosses, as one of our flyers is filling in for an injured teammate, but the team continues to adjust and work through those challenges,” head coach Malory Hoffman said. “Tumbling continues to be a strength for this team, and we are proud of the progress we continue to see.”

The Arrows returned home Thursday to host the Watertown Invite at the Civic Arena. The cheer team improved on its early-week score, finishing fourth overall with a 278.5. Harrisburg once again took top honors with a 294.5.

In Thursday’s dance division, Watertown tied Pierre and Aberdeen Central for fifth place with 34 points, recording event scores of 272.0 in pom and 258.5 in jazz. Brandon Valley captured the grand championship with 40 points.

Watertown cheer and dance return to action Oct. 15 at the Eastern South Dakota Conference Meet in Harrisburg.
