Watertown Tennis Caps Season With 8th-Place Finish at Class AA State Tournament

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Highlighted by a consolation championship from Grace Pesek, the Watertown girls tennis team capped its season with an eighth-place finish at the Class AA State Tennis Tournament on Friday.

The Arrows totaled 125 points in the team standings. Rapid City Stevens claimed the overall state title on its home courts with 479 points.

Grace Pesek led the Watertown singles lineup in Flight 3, dominating Brandon Valley’s Olivia Ericsson 10-3 to claim the Flight 3 consolation title. In Flight 6 singles, Carolann Clausen battled her way into the consolation finals before dropping a 10-3 decision to Seneca Nielsen of Sioux Falls Washington. Ella Pesek reached the Flight 5 consolation semifinals, falling 10-6 to Harrisburg’s Hanna Hruby.

In singles action, Elly Dingsor reached the Flight 1 Fifth-Place semifinals, falling 10-3 to Bishop O’Gorman’s Lucy Koziara. At Flight 2 singles, Jennika Kettwig also advanced to the Fifth-Place semifinals before falling 10-2 to Bishop O’Gorman’s Sarah Jamous.

Watertown’s doubles teams pushed deep into placement rounds across all three flights. In Flight 1 doubles, Elly Dingsor and Jennika Kettwig earned a spot in the Fifth-Place finals, falling 10-4 to Harrisburg’s Hope Gabel and Noa Lovro. In Flight 2 doubles, Victoria Bobzien and Grace Pesek advanced to the consolation finals, dropping a 10-6 match to Corinne Cahill and Aubrey Corp of Sioux Falls Washington. Finally, in Flight 3 doubles, Lillian Fox and Ella Pesek advanced to the Fifth-Place finals, where they fell 10-2 to Sioux Falls Washington’s Kendall Blaylock and Alivia Dahlmeier.
