PIERRE, S.D. — Dane Stark and Grace McElroy led the way for Watertown on Saturday as the Arrow boys and girls cross country teams competed at the Eastern South Dakota Conference Meet at the Pierre Municipal Golf Course.
In the boys race, Stark earned a runner-up finish with a time of 15 minutes, 55.5 seconds, finishing just behind Aberdeen Central’s Tate DeVries, who won the conference title in 15:54.9.
Channing DeBoer placed 22nd for the Arrows in 17:55.4, while Evan Mack finished 29th in 18:13.1. Finishing outside the top 30 for Watertown were Logan Becker (18:28.6), Kaiser Lunde (18:57.4), Zayne Hartwig (19:59.3), Iver Pospisil (20:49.7), Grady Lindgren (21:01.7), David Peterson (21:35.0) and Jace Mashburn (21:47.0).
The Watertown boys finished seventh overall as a team. Brandon Valley captured the boys team conference championship.
On the girls side, Grace McElroy paced Watertown with a fifth-place finish, crossing the line in 19:00.0. Harrisburg’s Brianna Reilly claimed the individual title with a time of 17:30.7.
Kate McElroy finished 14th for the Arrows in 19:51.1, followed closely by Lilly Gerlach in 15th place at 19:55.5. Olivia Anderson crossed in 22nd place in 20:43.6. Finishing outside the top 30 for the Watertown girls were Grace List (21:38.3), Jayda Jensen (22:05.7), Addison Reichling (22:19.2) and Genesis Anderson (23:50.4).
The Watertown girls finished fourth in the team standings. Harrisburg claimed the girls team championship.
Watertown returns to action Oct. 16 at the Roger Loecker Invite in Huron.
