Undefeated Watertown boys soccer punched state championship ticket with win over Jefferson

WATERTOWN, S.D. — Xane Fligge and Roger Carranza each recorded a goal and an assist to lead Watertown to a 2-1 victory over Sioux Falls Jefferson in the Class AA boys soccer semifinals Tuesday night.

With the win, No. 2 Watertown (16-0-1) punched its ticket to the state championship game.

Fligge opened the scoring for the Arrows midway through the first half, striking with 34 minutes, 46 seconds remaining off a feed from Carranza to give Watertown a 1-0 advantage at the break.

The duo reversed roles early in the second half. Carranza netted Watertown’s second goal of the night at the 33:56 mark off an assist from Fligge, expanding the lead to 2-0.

The Cavaliers cut the deficit to 2-1 with a goal at the 17:07 mark of the second half, but the Watertown defense held firm down the stretch to secure the victory. Arrow goalkeeper Owen Muller finished with seven saves.

Watertown will host defending champion Sioux Falls Lincoln in the 2026 Class AA State Championship Game on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Allen Mitchell Field. SDPB will broadcast the match live on SDPB-TV2, SDPB.org/Soccer, and the SDPB YouTube channel.
