RAPID CITY, S.D. — Tyson Lawrence captured a flight championship to lead the Watertown Arrows during a two-day performance at the Rapid City Invitational on Thursday and Friday.
Lawrence secured the Flight 5 singles title by navigating through the bracket with a 10-2 win over Leyton Horning of St. Thomas More and a 10-4 victory against Vane Divan of Rapid City Stevens. In the championship match, Lawrence defeated Simon Wiese 10-7 to claim the top spot.
The Arrows also earned two runner-up finishes in singles play. In Flight 2, Xane Fligge reached the finals after defeating Anthony Herrera of St. Thomas More 10-5 and edging Josh Mueller of Rapid City Stevens 10-9. Fligge took second place following a 10-2 loss to Brandon Valley’s Will Jensen. In Flight 4, Dawson Hartman advanced to the title round with wins over Oliver Huxford of St. Thomas More and Dawson Adams of Mitchell. Hartman placed second after a 10-5 loss to Jace Parkin of Rapid City Stevens.
In doubles action, the Flight 2 duo of Joey Meester and Matthew Bertsch earned a silver medal, falling 10-5 in the championship match to Mitchell’s Asher Dannenbring and Dawson Adams. The Flight 3 pairing of Lawrence and Boston Butler secured third place with a victory over Mitchell’s Simon Wiese and Patrick Morgan, while the Flight 1 team of Fligge and Hartman finished in sixth place following a narrow 10-8 loss to Mitchell.
Rounding out the singles results, Boston Butler placed fourth in Flight 6 after falling 10-6 to Travis Rowberry of Brandon Valley in the third-place match. In Flight 1, Joey Meester finished sixth overall, highlighted by an 8-0 consolation win over Spearfish’s Enoch Bailey. Matthew Bertsch also took sixth place in Flight 3, earning a 8-2 victory over Rory Murphy of Rapid City Central during his tournament run.
