Deuel, Castlewood & GPL Shine at Pat Gilligan Alumni Meet

ESTELLINE, S.D. — Local track and field programs delivered strong performances at the Pat Gilligan Alumni Meet on Tuesday.

The Castlewood boys secured a second-place team finish with 89.5 points, fueled largely by Brody Bass who captured titles in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.42 seconds and played a pivotal role in the Warriors’ winning 4×200 and 4×400 relay teams. Alongside teammates Dalton Moorhouse, Will Aderhold, and Kamden Keszler, the unit posted a 1:35.85 in the 4×200 and a 3:40.08 in the 4×400. Nolan Eidson added to the Castlewood trophy haul by winning the 3,200-meter run in 10:40.49, while Kayla Goens took the top spot in the girls’ javelin with a toss of 108 feet, 6 inches.

Deuel finished the day with both its boys and girls programs taking third place in the team standings. The Cardinals’ boys finished with 87 points, bolstered by a victory in the 4×100 relay as Case Schiernbeck, Chris Gallardo, Gavin Kloos, and Brock Johnson crossed the line first in 46.53 seconds. In the field, Malakai Maskovich cleared 12 feet to win the pole vault, and Owen Haas took first in the javelin with a throw of 150-7. Tyson Hagberg and Caden Hourigan secured second-place finishes in the 1,600 and 800, respectively.

On the girls’ side, Deuel’s 99 points were anchored by Alayna Carlson and Hannah Cutshaw. Carlson sprinted to victory in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.47 seconds, while Cutshaw dominated the pole vault by clearing 10 feet. The Cardinals also notched a second-place finish in the 4×100 relay.

Great Plains Lutheran saw a standout day from Keturah Schleusener, who earned runner-up honors in both the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints. Teammates Milo Schumacher and Abigail Kjenstad also contributed podium finishes, with Schumacher taking second in the 300-meter hurdles and Kjenstad placing second in the long jump. Waubay/Summit rounded out the local highlights with second-place finishes from Teegan Gaikowski in the high jump and Addison Heinje in the javelin.
