Watertown Drops Pair to Brandon Valley

BRANDON, S.D. — Watertown Post 17 suffered a pair of losses on Wednesday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Brandon Valley Post 131.

Brandon Valley 12, Watertown 4
In the opener, Brandon Valley rode a 12-hit attack and a wild but effective pitching performance to secure a 12-4 victory.

Jack Blomgren led the way for Brandon Valley, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Brayden Knutson added a 2-for-4 performance with three RBIs, while Max Peters, Ryder Mueller, and Cooper Veld each collected two hits.

Blomgren also earned the win on the mound despite battling command issues. He held Watertown hitless over his outing, allowing three runs while striking out eight and issuing eight walks.

Watertown was held to just two hits in the contest, coming from Carter Buisker and Sam Olson. Olson also drove in two runs. Tripp Jorgenson took the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits over 3 1/3 innings. Kooper Heiser and Ashton Rabine pitched in relief.

Brandon Valley 10, Watertown 6
Watertown rallied to tie the nightcap in the fifth inning, but a four-run sixth by Brandon Valley proved to be the difference in a 10-6 defeat.

With the game knotted at 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth, Brandon Valley capitalized on a two-run single by Peters, a bases-loaded walk by Bryton Stroh, and a hit-by-pitch from Grady Gindorff to break the tie.

Peters finished the night with two hits and two RBIs, while Stroh accumulated four RBIs. Will VanLeur earned the victory in relief, allowing just one hit. Brandon Valley starter Matthew Henkelman pitched 2 1/3 innings, giving up four runs on two hits with three strikeouts.

Markus Pitkin paced the Watertown offense, going 1-for-2 with three RBIs. Olson, Buisker, Cain Everson, and Jaxon Falak each finished with a hit. Hunter Halajian absorbed the loss, striking out seven and allowing 10 runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings.
