CASTLEWOOD, S.D. — Dom Boeger delivered a dominant performance on the mound, striking out 17 batters in a complete-game effort to lift Milbank to a 5-1 victory over Elkton in an elimination game of the District 1B Amateur Baseball Tournament.
Boeger scattered eight hits and allowed just one run while throwing 119 pitches over nine innings. With the loss, Elkton was eliminated from postseason play.
After six scoreless innings, Milbank broke the tie in the top of the seventh. Joe Schulte cracked a three-run double to put the Firechiefs on the board. RBI singles from Brady Femling and Tanner Hallquist added two more runs in the inning to stretch the lead to 5-0.
Femling finished 3 for 4 at the plate with an RBI, while Schulte went 2 for 3 with three RBIs to lead the Milbank offense.
Elkton scored its lone run in the eighth inning on an RBI double by Dave Bierman.
Billy Steffen started on the mound for Elkton, tossing six scoreless innings. He allowed five hits and struck out four before exiting. Nathan Shallcross took the loss in relief, giving up five runs on four hits.
Milbank advances to Game 9 of the tournament, where it will face the loser of Tuesday night’s matchup.
