MILBANK, S.D. — Local track and field teams converged on A.B. Campbell Stadium for the Valley Queen Cheese Invite, where the Clark/Willow Lake girls delivered a commanding team victory. The Cyclones finished at the top of the girls’ standings with 168.5 points, led by a series of individual titles and relay success.
Kameryn Nesheim proved to be a powerhouse for the Clark/Willow Lake distance squad, securing first-place finishes in both the 800-meter run with a time of 2:30.11 and the 1,600-meter run at 5:26.36. She added a second-place finish in the 3,200-meter run to round out a high-scoring day. The Cyclones also saw victories from Cadence Bochek in the 400-meter dash and Emma Bochek in the 300-meter hurdles. In the field, Eliza Larson took first in the shot put with a toss of 37 feet, 5.5 inches.
The Clark/Willow Lake boys placed fifth overall with 56 points, bolstered by Michael Severson’s win in the shot put and Bo Begeman’s first-place leap of 40 feet, 11.25 inches in the triple jump. Begeman also secured second place in the high jump.
Hamlin’s boys’ team finished third in the team standings, tallying 67 points. The Chargers relied heavily on their speed in the relay events, claiming the top spot in the 4×100-meter relay and the 4×200-meter relay. The winning 4×100 team of Gavin Maag, Jonathan Leonardi, Riggs Prouty, and Rylan Thue crossed the line in 45.40 seconds. Thue also added a second-place individual finish in the 200-meter dash. In the field events, Matthew Mount took second in the javelin with a throw of 154 feet, 6 inches, while Addelyn Jensen led the Hamlin girls with a second-place finish in the triple jump.
Athletes from Florence/Henry and Great Plains Lutheran also left their mark on the meet. The Florence/Henry 1,600-meter sprint medley relay team, comprised of Roean Raymer, Mylee Sumner, Addison Byer, and Sierra Keller, took first place with a time of 4:40.42. For Great Plains Lutheran, Nylah Vannelli secured a victory in the javelin with a throw of 107 feet. Dawson Hlavacek of Florence/Henry rounded out the local highlights with a second-place finish in the boys’ triple jump.
