BLAINE, Minn. — The Watertown Shamrocks dominant offensive performance secured their first victory of the season, handily defeating the Wisconsin Windigo 7-1 at the NAHL Showcase.
Watertown set a relentless pace throughout the contest, pouring 54 shots on the Wisconsin goal while maintaining control across all three periods.
Justin Obrochta opened the scoring for the Shamrocks late in the first period, lighting the lamp at 18:24. Justin Bartley doubled the lead late in the second period, striking at 18:40 to put Watertown up 2-0.
Wisconsin answered briefly when Hunter Friedrich found the net at 16:50 of the second period to cut the deficit to one. However, the Shamrocks immediately countered with a quick pair of goals from Jake Pietila at 9:02 and Jordan Brother at 8:19 to extend the advantage to 4-1 heading into the final intermission.
Watertown kept its foot on the gas in the third period, adding three unanswered goals. Kyle Green scored at 13:01, followed by Boon Chartier at 2:51. Pietila capped off the scoring with his second goal of the night with just 56 seconds remaining in regulation.
Goaltender Mason Gudridge anchored the effort between the pipes for Watertown, stopping 32 of 33 shots to earn the win.
With the victory, Watertown improves to 1-0-2-0 on the young season. The Shamrocks continue showcase play Friday morning against the Philadelphia Rebels, with puck drop scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
