BRANDON, S.D. — The Watertown cheer and dance teams showed continued growth and returned to full strength Tuesday during the Brandon Valley Invite.
In the cheer portion of the competition, Watertown secured a sixth-place finish with a score of 269. Sioux Falls Jefferson earned the top spot, taking home the championship with 289 points.
The event marked a key milestone for the Arrows cheer squad, which welcomed back every team member following a string of recent injuries.
“We continued to see improvement in our scores at this competition, and it was exciting to have all of our team members back from injury,” said Watertown cheer coach Malory Hoffman. “Our tumbling was clean overall, although we continue to work on improving timing. The cheer section was loud and clean with strong synchronization and solid stunts and jumps.”
Hoffman highlighted the effort the team has put into refining their routine over recent weeks.
“Over the past few weeks, we have focused on making each section of our routine more polished and consistent, and the team continues to make great progress,” Hoffman said. “We have some changes planned during our break. I’m proud of the work the team continues to put in and look forward to seeing them progressing through the remainder of the season.”
On the dance side, the Arrows earned an eighth-place overall finish. Watertown placed sixth in the Pom discipline with a score of 230.5 and added another sixth-place result in Jazz with 244.5 points. Host Brandon Valley was named Grand Champion of the meet.
Watertown cheer and dance will take the mat next at the Harrisburg Invitational on Oct. 5.
