Castlewood, Hamlin, and GPL Stand Out at Brace-Hopfinger Relays

VOLGA, S.D. — Local track and field athletes delivered a series of top performances Tuesday at the Brace-Hopfinger Relays.

Castlewood
Nolan Eidson led the Warriors with a victory in the 3,200-meter run, clocking a time of 10:47.90. Eidson also secured a second-place finish in the 1,600 meters (4:52.18). Brody Bass earned a title in the javelin with a toss of 141 feet, 1 inch, and placed second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.73). On the girls’ side, Kayla Goens took first place in the javelin with a mark of 104-2.

Hamlin
The Chargers’ relay teams highlighted the day, as Rylan Thue, Trig Heinrich, Gavin Maag, and Riggs Prouty won the 4×100-meter relay in 45.21 seconds. The same quartet finished second in the 4×200 (1:34.09). In the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay, the team of Maag, Jonathan Leonardi, Chase Stormo, and Chase Gustafson placed second (4:13.58). In field events, Tate Everson took second in the discus with a throw of 142-7.

For the Hamlin girls, Ava Taschner finished second in the 1,600 meters (6:08.61), and Jade Thue earned a runner-up spot in the 100-meter hurdles (17.19).

Great Plains Lutheran
Lucas Johnson cleared 6 feet, 2 inches to win the high jump for the Panthers. Johnson also joined Ryen Kjenstad, Sam Manian, and Aiden Cameron for a second-place finish in the 4×100-meter relay (46.59).

The GPL girls were powered by Keturah Schleusener, who swept the sprints with wins in the 100 meters (13.48) and the 200 meters (27.50). Abigail Kjenstad added a second-place finish in the high jump, clearing 4-10.
