Tea Area Capitalizes on Watertown Errors in Shutout

TEA, S.D. — Tea Area took full advantage of a struggling Watertown defense Tuesday, parlaying nine errors into a 13-0 victory in high school softball action.

The Titans broke the game open early, scoring five runs in both the second and third innings before adding three more in the fourth. Ava Opland and Kaylyn Hall led the offensive charge with two hits apiece.

Brynn Kline earned the win in the circle, tossing a five-inning complete game. She struck out six and surrendered just four hits in the shutout performance.

Watertown’s offense was limited to singles from Kodi Lund, Alexa Brown, Lauryn Hirsch, and Avery Bauman. Brown started the game for Watertown, pitching 2 1/3 innings and allowing 10 runs on six hits and two walks. Hirsch provided 1 1/3 innings of relief.

Watertown coach Kelli Brinka noted that while the team showed flashes of strong play, consistency remained the primary hurdle.

“There were moments where we played really well and made some big plays, but the difference was our response when things didn’t go our way,” Brinka said. “Our growth is going to come from learning how to handle those moments instead of letting them snowball.”

Watertown (1-2) returns home to the Premier Softball Complex on Thursday to host Harrisburg.
