ABERDEEN, S.D. — The Watertown cross country program delivered a dominant showing Thursday at the Sahli/Salmi Invitational, highlighted by an individual title from Grace McElroy that propelled the girls team to a first-place finish at Lee Park Golf Course.
McElroy captured victory in the girls race with a time of 19 minutes, 15.23 seconds. The Arrows placed four runners in the top five and all eight squad members in the top 30.
Olivia Anderson posted a third-place finish for the girls in 20:15.25, while teammate Kate McElroy followed closely in fourth at 20:17.53. Lilly Gerlach rounded out the top-five sweep, placing fifth with a mark of 20:36.72.
Grace List earned 15th place in 22:01.34, followed by Jayda Jensen in 19th (22:23.48), Addison Reichling in 25th (22:47.36), and Genesis Anderson in 27th (22:53.07).
In the boys division, Watertown finished second in the team standings, anchored by a runner-up performance from Dane Stark.
Stark crossed the finish line in 15:53.87 to lead six Arrows who cracked the top 30. Channing DeBoer took eighth place in 18:20.59, and Logan Becker claimed 10th in 18:49.17.
Also contributing top-30 runs for the Watertown boys were Kaiser Lunde in 16th (19:06.78), Evan Mack in 25th (19:49.62), and Zayne Hartwig in 27th (20:14.28).
Rounding out the field for the Arrows were Grady Lindgren (20:52.34), Jace Mashburn (21:36.38), David Peterson (22:04.28), and Iver Pospisil (22:05.99).
Watertown returns to action Sept. 18 at the Roy Griak Invitational.
